The Business Registers Group oversees the use and development of the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR). The IDBR is a comprehensive database of UK businesses, which is used by UK statistics producers as a sampling frame for business surveys.
The Business Registers Group meets biannually, and its main role is to:
- support the implementation of the IDBR as a tool for better regulation, by promoting standards for coordination of statistical inquiries,
- extend the use of the IDBR across government, advising on data sharing issues,
- manage non-Government Statistical Service (GSS) customer requests for access,
- provide a forum to discuss business register quality issues.
The group is chaired by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), and is made up of representatives from across government. For more information, take a look at the GSS Business Registers Group Terms of Reference.
