Hello my name is Sophia King and I’ve just joined the GSS Professional Support Team. I’m three weeks into my new job at the moment and like any new role there’s lots of reading and meeting new people, not to mention getting to grips with all the little idiosyncrasies that go with settling in!
My job title is head of GSS talent management and inclusion, this will naturally cover a range of work streams, but overall it seems to me that I’ve been tasked to ensure that all GSS members have the support and skills to ensure they can be the best they can be. It’s also critical from my point of view that talent management goes hand in hand with diversity initiatives, as through accessing the widest range and most diverse range of people we will access the full range of skills and talent in our workforce.
Over the next few months, I’ll be looking to set up a GSS wide strategy for talent management, from entry grade right to the SCS. Part of this is through establishing a more centralised GSS system of managed moves. I’ll also be looking at the statistical fast stream (both the new centrally run scheme and the pre-existing scheme), and looking at GSS diversity data and how we can effectively monitor our talent and diversity initiatives. Hopefully that should keep me busy! I’m keen to get involved with as much of the existing good work that I know is taking place across the GSS on diversity or talent management so I really want to hear from you all on these subjects.
