Building Data Science Capability for the UK
Are you making the most of your data? What do Data Scientists do in your organisation?
On behalf of the public and private sector, the Government Statistical Service is developing the UKs first Data Scientist Integrated Degree Apprenticeship. Today is the launch of a two week consultation on the draft standard that details the occupation profile, knowledge, skills and behaviours of a data scientist. This follows significant contributions to the Trailblazer Group from government, multinational and small to medium enterprises.
The consultation is an opportunity for other employers and data science practitioners to feedback how closely the Standard meets their expectations. Comments are being collected until midday Friday 13th October 2017 through an online survey.
Your feedback on the content of the Standard will ensure the apprenticeship works for employers as a viable, high quality career which is also supported by the Data Science community.
After the consultation has closed the feedback will be considered by the Trailblazer Group with the aim of submitting a final Standard to the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) by the end of October. The IfA will assess whether the Standard is of sufficient quality to progress to the next stage (drafting the end point assessment plan).
What we need to know:
- Does the Standard fully cover the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for a fully competent degree qualified (Level 6) Data Scientist?
- Is the length and skill level of the draft Standard substantive enough for the occupational profile of data scientist at Level 6?
