The Government Data Science Festival 2022 is an opportunity for the government and public sector data science community, and colleagues in the academic sector, to come together to learn, discover, share and connect.

We have made a lot of progress since Festival 2020, which was called “Enabling the new normal: The role of data science in moving towards a post-COVID world”.

The theme for this year’s festival

This year we invite you to think about everything we have learned as a community and look to the future. At this year’s Festival we will be thinking about ‘The Future of Data Science for Public Good’. The Festival will include creative presentations, workshops and interactive experiences.

The Festival is organised and presented by the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) Data Science Campus, on behalf of the Government Data Science Partnership.

We will concentrate on several important themes during the Festival.

Foundations for the future

We will think about how we do data science. This includes:

  • looking at new methods, tools and techniques
  • building data science skills in organisations, projects and pipelines
  • thinking about the challenge of operationalising

Future impact

We will think about and discuss:

  • the issues, challenges and questions that will affect society, and how we can evaluate this
  • how we measure the effect of our work
  • ethical considerations in data science

Your future

We will give practical advice about how to develop your skills and career in data science.

How to join

You can register to attend the Government Data Science Festival 2022 on the Festival website.

This Festival is for the government, academic, and public sector data science community. You will need to register for the Festival with an email address assigned by your organisation. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

It’s not too late to volunteer as a helper

We are still looking for people to help us manage this event. We call our volunteer helpers ‘Festival Makers’.

As a Festival Maker, you will help give the data science community the opportunity to talk about the power of data science and how we can use it for the public good in our changing world. Being a Festival Maker is a great way to connect with the wider data science community, build your network and be part of something special. There are a range of roles available.

If you would like to volunteer to be a Festival Maker, please email the Festival mailbox to express your interest by Thursday 31 March 2022.
