GSSM25: the 25th GSS Methodology Symposium

Date
4th December 2020 9:00am to 5:00pm
Venue
The KIA Oval, Kennington Oval, London, SE11 5SS, United Kingdom

Change of date

We’re sorry to advise that, in light of COVID-19 and with the welfare of our delegates in mind, the GSSM25 in July 2020 has been postponed to 4 December 2020. This decision has been taken following the latest advice set by the UK government and Public Health England. Thank you for your interest and patience in the meantime.

Theme

The theme for this is statistical methodology evolution: a celebration of new and innovative methodology over the years. This is to celebrate change and innovation over the 25 years of the GSS Methodology (GSSM) symposiums. This event is a great opportunity to both showcase and learn from methodological developments from across the GSS and beyond.

We are keen to gather delegates with interest or expertise in the following areas:

  • data processing
  • data analysis
  • data collection
  • data linkage
  • estimation
  • data mining
  • data science/big data

Take a look at information from previous symposiums for examples of the type of projects that we are keen to showcase at the event.

Event format

Parallel sessions

There will be approximately 12 parallel sessions, each 30 minutes in length. These will take place in the main room and syndicate rooms at the Kia Oval. There will be a call for presentations within the defined topics shortly.

Unconference sessions

The aim of the unconference sessions is to increase networking and learning, initiating steps towards collaborative working.

In line with GSSM25’s main theme we will be adapting the usual format of the GSSM symposium to introduce an unconference session. This unconference session is an informal, collaborative session allowing delegates to choose what they want to present.

Delegates will be prompted on which topic sessions they are interested in attending and this will dictate the plan for this session. Sessions will take place simultaneously in the booked rooms.

Panel session

The theme for this session is “assuring quality in innovation”. In it, we will explore which statistical methods have stood the test of time and been adopted.

Call for abstracts

We are looking for presentations of innovative work, deriving value from data and improving the quality of statistics. Any submissions should fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • data processing
  • data analysis
  • data collection
  • data linkage
  • estimation
  • data mining
  • data science/big data

More information on this, including an abstract template for submission, will be added soon.

Registration and contact

Registration for the event is free and will open shortly. We will release more information on the symposium on this page as it becomes available.
