Harmonised principles by topic

What are harmonised principles?

Harmonised principles can be used by producers of statistics to improve harmonisation when they collect and publish statistics on a given topic. They can be used by users to improve their understanding of how to compare and combine statistics.

The principles include definitions, survey questions, standards for administrative data, rules for presentation and guidance for users.

On this page we list the principles by topic. Each of the topics are currently active with work being undertaken to improve and enhance our guidance and research.  Work on the principles has been developed by topic groups, after wide consultation across the Government Statistical Service and beyond.
