Launch of the Government Statistical Service (GSS) Quality and Harmonisation Strategies

The GSS Quality Strategy and GSS Harmonisation Strategy have been launched today.

These strategies have been developed by the Best Practice and Impact (BPI) division through consultation with key stakeholders across the GSS. They are future-focussed and set direction on quality, coherence and comparability of statistics across the GSS

The strategies have been designed to be accessible for anyone to read, from desk analysts through to management. These aren’t strategies solely for statisticians, everyone who works on the production and dissemination of government statistics is part of the GSS and included in the strategies.

As stated in the Better Statistics, Better Decisions Strategy, we want to see our statistics enabling sound policy decisions and providing a firm evidence base for decision making both in and out of government. Improving the quality and harmonisation of statistics across the GSS will also build trust in the statistics and in us as producers.

The strategies provide clarity on a cross-government approach to quality and harmonisation. In BPI, we will be able to build a picture of the current state of quality and harmonisation across government.  We will be able to collate case studies and examples of best practice across government. Through sharing this we will help foster a government statistical system that works together to produce high quality statistics.
