Members needed for Royal Statistical Society committee

The Official Statistics Section of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking new members to serve on its committee from 2021.

If you are keen to contribute new ideas for section activities, help organise events and represent the section at meetings then please get in touch.

The section is concerned with all types of data (including open data sets) from official sources nationally and locally. We provide a forum for discussing the collection, quality, dissemination, analysis, and interpretation of official statistics, including methods and findings.

We organise sessions at the RSS Conference and collaborate with other RSS sections and local groups. We also help support the RSS National Statistics Advisory Group, where discussion of United Kingdom policy for official statistics takes place.

We hold around four committee meetings per year, usually via Microsoft Teams, or at our Errol Street office with a dial-in option, once meeting rooms reopen. In between meetings there will be some communication by email.

The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics.

For the 2021 committee, we would particularly welcome interest from women and ethnic minorities  from any branch of official statistics, as well as early career statisticians with an interest in official statistics (both users and producers).

To take up a position you will need to be a fellow of the RSS (including via corporate membership).

If you are interested or want to discuss the role, please contact Amaka Nwagbara by emailing (please use subject line ‘Official Statistics section committee 2021’) with a paragraph (up to 250 words) summarising:

  • your background
  • why you would like to join
  • what you will contribute to the committee

The closing date for expressions of interest is Thursday 10 December 2020.
