Geography

Standards around the use of geography in official statistics are set out in the Geography Policy for the Government Statistical Service (GSS). This provides best practice guidance on what and how geographic reference data is used to produce official statistics, so that they are geographically comparable, consistent and fit for purpose.

The policy, geographic reference data and guidance documents are all available from the Open Geography Portal.

The geographic reference data can also be accessed as Linked Data.
