The Department for International Trade has overall responsibility for developing, coordinating and delivering a new trade and investment policy for the UK, including preparing for and then negotiating Free Trade Agreements and market access deals with non-EU countries, and promoting UK trade and investment across the world.
You will lead a team which will make full use of data sets held both inside and outside the department to produce statistical and analytic products that inform trade policy and negotiations and board level decision-making. This will include management information on businesses that trade or invest, micro-data from the Office National Statistics and HM Revenue and Customs and international and open source data on trade. You will lead analytical data science projects, applying techniques to trade and investment data to produce readily accessible insights for the department.
Training will be provided in trade statistics and wider trade policy and through the Diplomatic Academy and your development in trade statistics will be supported by your senior trade statistician colleagues. The role will provide excellent development and you will gain the experience of developing a vital data science function in a new department.
