The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) are recruiting a statistician to fill a C1 (Senior Executive Officer equivalent) post to support the development of statistical data and research on the impact of Intellectual Property (IP) on the UK economy and society. The role will involve matrix working across the team’s broad portfolio that will include collaborating with economists, social researchers, policy and operational colleagues and academics. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team with increasing exposure, both within IPO and across government.

This role will provide opportunities to work with policy officials across the IPO and government on a range of exciting projects across all IP rights. In particular the posts will provide support and develop the IPO’s thinking around the impact of future technology; and developing research on what drives demand for IP rights.

The role will be tailored to your background (i.e. statistics or operational research) e.g:

• providing analysis for distinct areas of IP (patents, trade marks, designs and copyright,)

• leading on the development of new IPO statistical publications (for example using experimental methodology to estimate gender and ethnicity among inventors)

• project managing externally commissioned research (from the development of business cases and research specifications to publication)

• influencing the development of policy using evidence and analysis

• presenting to senior stakeholders internally and externally

• developing analytical papers for discussion

• drafting advice to Ministers and senior colleagues
