Statistician loan opportunities at Welsh Government (HEO)
Welsh Government are seeking Statistical Officers (EO grade), Higher Statistical Officers (HEO grade) and Senior Statistical Officers (SEO grade) to join them on loan for up to 2 years.
The role of their statisticians is to support decision-making, resource allocation, research and debate within Welsh Government and the wider community, by providing reliable and efficient statistical services. As a devolved administration, a wide range of statistics are covered by their statisticians including health, education, training, the economy, industry, transport, agriculture, housing, local government, the environment, demography, and the Welsh language. They have a number of roles available as loan/secondment opportunities both within our Statistical Services Division and embedded within policy teams across the organisation.
Depending on the grade and post, you could expect the following types of development opportunity:
- Opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of Welsh Government policies in a range of diverse and often cross-cutting areas and to work with colleagues in formulating and monitoring such policies.
- Experience of briefing Ministers and senior officials, and partnership working both within the Welsh Government, UK Government and with external bodies such as NHS Wales Informatics Service, Public Health Wales and Estyn.
- Opportunity to further develop statistical analysis and dissemination skills
These lateral loan/secondment opportunities are open to statisticians and data scientists within the Government Statistician Group who hold permanent contracts in their home departments. Applications will also be considered from other analysts working within the wider Government Statistical Service provided a permanent contract is held (e.g. other members of the Office for National Statistics Researchers Analysts and Statisticians group, ex-data analytics apprentices, “non-badged” statisticians with relevant experience such as those in arm’s-length bodies).
